Concrete is a highly valuable industrial and construction material, but as it is in its most basic form, it is not all that pretty and can have its downfalls. Concrete coating products are designed to help improve the pitfalls of basic concrete, and there are several kinds to choose from on the market. Here is a look at four of the common concrete coating products and how they are used.
Acid Washes - Perhaps the most modern and aesthetic form of concrete coating, an acid wash changes the upper surface design appeal of the concrete by changing colors and creating patterns. Acid washes can be done with different chemicals to bring out different color variations in the finished design. The end result is often a marbled or even wood-grain effect that looks nothing like concrete at all.
Quick Dye Coatings - If you like the idea of having a concrete floor but you do not like the idea of a grey slab as a design element, then quick dye concrete coatings are a good solution to consider. Quick dyes can be added after a slab of concrete is fully cured. Even though the concrete is cured, it still can be dyed because the surface is most often slightly porous in its composition. A quick dye coating gets poured over the slab where it gets absorbed into the material and changes the hue of the concrete itself.
Epoxy Coating - Epoxy coating has been used in both commercial and industrial settings for a really long time. However, epoxy coatings are also common treatments for residential garages as well. Epoxy created a barrier between the concrete slab and foot traffic on the surface. The beauty of epoxy is it can be combined with particles for texture, so you can get an epoxy floor that is not easy to slip and fall on because it has a gritty surface. Epoxy can be combined with dyes to achieve different floor colors and it can also be combined with resin to create an epoxy-resin coating for concrete.
Resin Coating - A little like epoxy concrete coating products, resin concrete coatings create a protective barrier over the concrete. However, the resin is often used to make concrete more aesthetically appealing and easier to clean instead of adding surface texture for safety and protection. Resin coatings are often translucent in their design, but they can be tinted different colors for altered effects once the coating has cured.
